The Future of work and skills management

Humans are, at their very core, innovators. They are perpetually challenging themselves to widen their horizons and deepen their knowledge. Driven by their intelligence, curiosity, and thirst for evolving, they are constantly changing the way they live and behave. As their lives are transformed by newer technologies, their work, skills management and their work-spaces also change. Technological revolutions, advances, and emerging innovations are metamorphosing the world of business, creating a ripple of modifications in work, workplace, skills management and workforce.
Technology is taking over every facet of every organization, while generational changes are influencing the way of conducting business. Multiple forces of change like demographics, technology, automation, and globalization are coming together to create modern workplaces that are constantly evolving at an unprecedented phase.

Driven by rapid technological innovations, there are seismic shifts in organizations and every stakeholder is forced to evolve along with it. On one side, new roles and jobs are being created, while on the other many jobs are being outdated and obsolete. These new technologies along with changing labor markets are set to transform not only jobs but also how we value different skills and kinds of work. 

The Internet of Things (IoT) technology has been around for quite some time, but the spread of artificial intelligence is transforming key elements of our work and the way we do our jobs. This, in turn, imposes an added focus on the skills needed to adapt to these emerging workspaces. Adoption of automation and artificial intelligence will create changes in the workplaces, skills management and create a shift of skills needed to be a part of those spaces.
As organizations embrace these technologies, machines will take over or complement many of the tasks done by humans. With AI advancing across the organization, workers in various departments including HR, IT, marketing, and more will be relieved from mundane and repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus more on creativity, solving complex problems, and get impactful work done. It is impacting the predictive capabilities and decision making with  data-driven insights in real-time. AI is revolutionizing how recruitments are done, training is imparted, and the data collected is used to derive people analytics. It is helping HR professionals to automate some of their tasks while allowing them to focus on more strategic exercises such as skills management that need human intervention.
